Firebird Restaurant
The Top List of Great Restaurants - London, England

You can find anything your taste buds desire in Londontown!

by Nancy Berkoff

London swings like pendulums do---- and its' restaurants really rock. Hop on a train to Brighton for some authentic (and good) fish 'n' chips or stay in town and have a shopper's tea at Fortnum and Mason (merchants' to the Queen). You can find anything your taste buds desire in Londontown!

PRINCE BONAPARTE
80 Chepstow Road, London, England W2 5BE
44 020 7313 9491
Located in a fun area in Notting Hill, Prince Bonaparte serves modern British food with Eastern, African and Mediterranean influences. This place is packed with an upbeat crowd seven days a week, and the meals are reasonable, the menus seasonal, and you'll feel like you're in London. I recommend the Cumberland sausages with roasted red onions, mash, and gravy.

LA TANTE CLAIRE
Wilton Place (Knightsbridge), London, England SW1X 7RL
44 020 7823 2003
Located in the Knightsbridge area (you can get some shopping in), Tante Claire is French Bistro at it's best. The food is made with care and feeling by famous chef Pierre Koffman himself. The service is outstanding without being too formal. Look for the soups and desserts and the lovely breads.

GORDON RAMSEY
68-69 Royal Hospital Road, London, England SW3 4HP
44 020 7352 4441
If someone owes you a large favor, head over to Chelsea and try some of the highest end French cuisine in London. Chef Gordon Ramsey creates world class creations that your sure to enjoy. It's quite pricey, but you deserve to eat like Escoffier at least once in a lifetime.

CONDOTTI
4 Mill Street, London, England W1R 9TE
44 020 7499 1308
You'll need to let your wallet recover, so take the underground to the Mayfair section and revel in thin crust pizza and American food (salad, burgers, etc.). Hey, everyone gets homesick sometime! Condotti is know for its mouth-watering, gourmet pizza. Stop by and enjoy the large portions and upscale surroundings.

THE GREENHOUSE RESTAURANT
27A Hay's Mews, London, England W1X 7RJ
44 020 7499 3331
The Greenhouse manages to nicely balance international, seafood, nouvelle French, vegetarian and healthy cuisine on one menu. At lunchtime, rub elbows with the hipster business people and the hippies-with-a wallet. This formal yet relaxing environment is a popular hangout for locals.

HEATHER'S VEGETARIAN & VEGAN RESTAURANT
74 Macmillan Street, London, England SE8 3HA
44 20 8691 6665
Some of London's veggie restaurants are so much fun! Heather's offers vegetarian and some vegan items with Italian, Asian, Greek, Cuban and South American accents. Come for the eclectic cuisine, stay for the with-it customers and the saucy service staff.

FUNG SHING
15 Lisle Street, London, England WC2 7BE
44 020 7437 1539
Retro Chinese, lots of Cantonese cuisine at Fung Shing's. The soups could be a meal or order four or five appetizers and call it "lunch." Viewed as the best Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown, Fung Shing serves a broad array of tasty items. The steamed chicken with mango and the crispy beef in spicy sauce are palette tingling! Although more expensive than most Chinese restaurants in London, the service, environment, and food are well worth the price.

FIREBIRD
23 Conduit Street, London, England W1R 9TB
44 020 7493 7000
Can't get to St. Petersburg this trip? Then make it over to the Firebird. This is Russian cuisine (not Lithuanian, not Turkistan) at its finest but also approachable. Think beets, sour cream, cabbage and buckwheat. The menu is overpriced but items offered are unusual. Firebird's is worth visiting for something new and delicious.

GORING DINING ROOM
15 Beeston Place, London, England SW1W OJW
44 020 7396 9000
Want to be posh? Then call for reservations, call for a cab and dine at Goring Hotel. The menu is continental, with lots of classic British dishes and some international cuisine thrown in to keep it interesting. The friendly service, excellent food, and broad wine selection make visiting Gorings enjoyable. After dinner, walk around the hotel and enjoy the classic English décor.

L'ORANGER
5 St. James Street, London, England SW1A 1EF
44 020 7839 3774
L'Oranger is a gracious fine dining establishment that will make you want to hop on a plane to Paris right after the petit fours. The ingredients used to prepare the menu items are the freshest and selected daily. The seafood is seasonal and fantastically prepared. Chef Kamel Benamar creates modern French dishes with exceptional attention to detail and quality. Although L'Oranger is a very formal restaurant, the experience is definitely worth getting dressed up for. Take your special someone - this is just the place to spend a romantic evening together.
