The Top List of Best Brunches - Portland, OR

The brunch is the perfect compromise for the late-morning weekend diner.

by Marie Richie & Jason Berzow

Not quite breakfast or lunch, it’s good to have both to choose from until quite late into a weekend afternoon. Most Portlanders take brunch very seriously. It might be an extension of the night before or the beginning of a day out and about. Either way, it’s a friendly and relaxed meal. You may find lines outside many of Portland’s best brunch spots on weekends. However, when seated, enjoy wonderful coffee or, perhaps, something from the breakfast bar. Competition between brunch restaurants benefits you with a wide array of options and sumptuous dishes to help you ease into the day.

Best known for it's mammoth desserts, this elegantly small restaurant is good any day of the week, but Sunday brunch is an occasion worth not missing. For starters, each table is served a basket of fresh bread and muffins, followed by your choice of breakfast classics like eggs and waffles, as well as more lunch-like items like pasta and ravioli stuffed with roasted potatoes. Some noteworthy breakfast items include the French Toast, made of brioche bread rolled with peaches, pears, hazelnuts and blueberries, and served with maple syrup, and the Chicken Rolleno Omelet,a finely roasted pepper stuffed with savory pieces of smoked chicken, avocado and jack cheese, delicately folded inside an omelet with a tomatillo-chipotle sauce and garnished with crème fraiche. With breakfast served all day, patrons of the Cup and Saucer can enjoy classics like French toast, pancakes, omelets, and an array of tasty pastries. Try the vanilla scone. You won't be disappointed. As for lunch, the Cup and Saucer does great burgers, as well as a nice selection of both meat and veggie sandwiches.
