Columbus brunch options have quadrupled in creativity in the past few years. When we were once limited to 50 bob Evans locations, now we have brunches featuring cuisines from around the world and new takes on old classics.
Cap City Fine Diner and Bar 1299 Olentangy River Rd Columbus, OH 43212 Grandview 614-291-3663 The only Cameron Mitchell Brunch option, Cap City’s Sunday Brunch is comfort food royale. This trendy, updated (food and décor) American diner and the brunch, serves a variety of hearty, carb busting dishes. The Oatmeal Brulee with vanilla yogurt, bananas, and strawberries is heavenly. Country Fried Chicken, Brunch Quesadillas, and Sausage Gravy and Biscuits are delicious too. Finish a meal off with Peach Brandy Bread Pudding or a slice of Deep Dish Apple Pie.

A Taste of Greece 7370 Sawmill Rd. Dublin, OH 43235 614-799-2207 Sunday brunch at this Greek restaurant, also known as Anna’s, is served from 11am-2:30pm. The Mediterranean buffet includes roast lamb, omelets, sautéed fish, Greek salads and many Greek toppings and sides. The Baklava and other desserts are worth the price alone, which is already very reasonable.

Dragonfly 247 King Avenue Columbus, Ohio 43201 Victorian Village 614-298-9986 Saturday brunch in a Vegan Organic restaurant… Try the Quinoa Pancake or Cocoa French Toast. Perhaps Shiso Tofu Bi Bim Bop made with sticky rice and coconut yam curry is more your style? A few interesting salads like the Oyster Mushroom Caesar make an appearance. A wide variety of teas and fresh squeezed juices are offered as well.

Banana Bean Café 410 E. Whittier St. Columbus, OH 43207 German Village 614-443-2262 From 9am-3pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the Banana Bean has their typical Floribbean (Key West, Jamaican, West Indian, and Southern) fusion dishes being served for brunch. Lemon Souufle pancakes are good. Roasted Corn and Blueberry pancakes are even better. For something a bit more exotic try the Third Coast Blue Crab burger or the Cedar Key Shrimp and Grits. For something more traditional try the Bananas Foster French Toast or maybe the Andouille Sausage. Both excellent.

Lindey’s Restaurant 169 E. Beck Street Columbus, Ohio 43206 German Village (614) 228-4343 This American Bistro is a German Village Classic and has one of the longest running brunches around. Leek, Goat Cheese, and Cheddar Quiche is incredible. The Croque Madame combines grilled ham and Gruyere Cheese, topped with a fried egg and Hollandaise Sauce and is also worth a taste; as are the Belgian Waffles and Mimosas. Even though, the brunch is also offered at Lindey’s other restaurant at Polaris, the old world charm of this location provides a certain elegance that is unmatched.

Expect traidtional Irish breakfast fare like rashers, bangers, black and white pudding, grilled tomatoes and baked beans. Hair of the dog offered as well.

Seven Stars at the Worthington Inn 649 North High Street Worthington, OH 43085 614-885-2600 Seven Stars in Olde Worthington presents the classic fine dining American brunch buffet with many, many hearty dishes. Eggs benedict, smoked salmon, Chicken Saltimboca, and peel and eat shrimp. A prime rib carving and omelet and waffle stations. The 200 year old Inn brings the feel of a small town or country charm. Brunch becomes a weekend retreat without leaving the city.

Starliner Diner 5240 Cemetery Rd Hilliard, OH 43026 (614) 529-1198 Even though it’s in an otherwise simple shopping center on the Northwest Side, the Starliner Diner is a vibrant, colorful, setting with good food and a loyal following, particular for brunch. Although pancakes, eggs, and bacon are staples on the menu, there’s quite a few Cuban and Latin inspired dishes. A breakfast burrito big enough to share, Chilliquiles (a Tex-Mex scramble), Chorizo, Jalopeno Corn bread, and others allow for an interesting twist on a laid back morning before an afternoon siesta.

Northstar Cafe 951 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43201 Short North 614-298-9999 The Northstar’s brunch is a favorite of foodies and restaurant professionals. Served from 11am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday, the brunch expands the everyday breakfast menu. The restaurant does its best to use locally grown and Organic ingredients and the technique is definitely working with its brunch offerings. Ricotta pancakes, an excellent House smoked turkey and bacon sandwich, plus some good muffins and pastries make Northstar reason enough to go downtown on a weekend morning.

ZenCha Tea Salon 982 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43201 Short North 614-421-2140 This weekend brunch, served from 9am-2pm is one of the better and least known around. Set in a relaxing Japanese style Tea room right on High Street. Items are a la carte and range from Arabian waffles with walnuts and dates, Green Tea flavored pancakes with red bean paste and roasted chestnuts, and Kaiseiki, a type of rice porridge. Pair any item with one of the many options of tea (more than 100 British, Indian, Chinese varieties). It’s a lighter, healthier way to start a day. Few places can match the freshness and quality.
