Located in the 19th century home of the first mayor of Ellicott City, Tersiguel’s epitomizes French Country cooking. Restaurant owners Fernand and Odette Tersiguel keep their menu in season by serving their own homegrown herbs, fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers, and have been doing so for more than 20 years. Their son Michael serves as executive chef, with previous cooking experience at Chateau Beaulau in the Loire Valley of France, and Napa Valley’s Tra Vigne. Delicious dishes include Pate de Campagne, made from an Odette family recipe, and the Chateaubriand pour Deux, filet mignon for two, served tableside, with mixed seasonal vegetables and béarnaise sauce. Tersiguel’s also boasts a wine list of more than 200 wines from France and the California coast.

A contemporary Italian restaurant located in Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon, Sotto Sopra consistently tops the city’s best restaurant list for its inventive fare. The menu is designed by an ever-rotating group of young Italian chefs, a move put in place by Owner and Executive Chef Riccardo Bosio to keep things fresh and exciting. Consistently one of Baltimore’s signature restaurants, Charleston recently underwent a total overhaul in décor and menu, emerging with a strong emphasis on ‘improvisational dining’, according to Executive Chef Cindy Wolf, who owns the restaurant with husband Tony Foreman. Charleston’s intimate dining setting and simple natural tones fit well with the restaurant’s exclusive tasting menu, where diners can choose three-, four-, five- or six-course meals from categories such as “Hot”, “Cold” and “The Season”. Sample dishes include sweet red beets with gala apples and aged balsamico, and pan-roasted wild rockfish with fresh artichoke and beeche mushrooms.

Located in a loving restored Mt. Vernon townhouse, The Brass Elephant is so named for the sconces adorning the main hall, and the original owner’s penchant for elephants. Designed and built in 1850, the restaurant houses Italian white marble fireplaces, intricately designed teak panels, hand cast plaster moldings, Waterford crystal chandeliers, and original Tiffany skylights. In addition to its elegant interior, Brass Elephant also boasts a fabulous menu, developed most recently by Executive Chef Christopher Lewis, with entrees such as Veal Tenderloin, served with warm corn flan, grilled fingerling potatoes and lump crab, finished with thyme-infused veal glace, or the Vegetarian Phyllo, stuffed with tofu, wild mushrooms and vegetables, served over wilted spinach and roasted tomato sauce.

Located in the heart of Baltimore’s Fells Point neighborhood, cozy and intimate Louisiana provides diners with some of the area’s best upscale French cooking combined with a true Creole flavor, and has been doing so since it opened on Valentine’s Day in 2000. Restaurant Owner John Saki designed the interior of Louisiana himself, and many of the pieces in the dining area were salvaged from local historic sites. As for your meal, start off with their blackened jumbo shrimp and grits, and try the grilled quail with andouille Roquefort cornbread as your main dish. But save room for one of their delicious New Orleans’ style desserts!

This Federal Hill hotspot, though small, boasts a bright and friendly atmosphere with its open kitchen and large windowns. Executive Chef and Owner Nicholas Batey’s love affair with cooking shines through in the restaurant’s eclectic menu, which includes delicious appetizers such as the Roasted Tomatillo Soup, served Yucatan-style and garnished with pan seared yellowfin tuna, or “small plates” like Lobster Ravioli or Sashimi Tuna with Avocado Tartare. The Bicycle also offers 18 select bottles of wine for $18 apiece – a rare find for a hip restaurant like this. For an even more romantic experience, opt to sit in the more intimate back dining room.

The Prime Rib's dramatic décor sweeps you back in time to a 1940's Manhattan supper club when dining out was romantic and quite in vogue. The restaurant prides itself on being "the civilized steakhouse." Both the décor and staff are meant to create the feeling of timeless elegance. Sink into one of the high back leather chairs and sip your martini while you listen to the live piano and bass music, performed nightly. Known for their aged steaks and thick chops, you'll also find excellent seafood on the menu, including the Crab Imperial. The prix fixe menu changes monthly at this stately historic mansion that houses the Elkridge Furnace Inn. Executive Chef and Owner Daniel Wecker’s romantic and charming atmosphere provides a perfect backdrop for the creative French-Eclectic menu with delights like foie grais strudel, phylo-wrapped apples and seared foie gras baked and topped with a white truffle aioli, and duck breast wrapped in prosciutto with black truffle butter, drizzled with a blackberry liquor sauce. The chocolate intemperance, an individual chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and covered with tempered chocolate immediately before serving is worthy of special note.
